> Migrating from getAddress? Start Here

GetAddress.io has **ceased operations as of 4pm on February 4th, 2026**. If you’ve been impacted, Ideal Postcodes’ support team and developers are available to immediately assist with your transition.

## The fastest safe path to get back up and running

We are currently the only provider offering a like-for-like GetAddress-compatible endpoint. In most cases, you can get back online by changing only two things:

- Your base URL
- Your API key

This is the fastest safe path to migrate quickly without rewriting your implementation. It may be temporary, but it is designed to get you stable first. Get the compatibility integration working first so you are operational again, then we can help you switch to the native Ideal Postcodes APIs for the best long-term setup.

### Step 1: Sign up and grab your API key

Create an Ideal Postcodes account [here](https://account.ideal-postcodes.co.uk/users/sign_up) and to receive your API key. You will use this key in place of your existing getAddress key.

### Step 2: Change the URL

Update your integration to use our GetAddress-compatible base URL. Details are on the [documentation here.](https://docs.ideal-postcodes.co.uk/docs/migrate/getaddressio/api-compatibility)

### Step 3: Replace the API key

Replace your existing api-key value with your new Ideal Postcodes API key.

## Why switch to Ideal Postcodes

### Licensed reseller

Ideal Postcodes is a licensed Royal Mail reseller. This matters if you want a provider with an established, compliant route to UK address data and a long-term commitment to the addressing ecosystem. We are also GDPR compliant and ISO 27001 certified. If you need documentation for procurement or legal review, you can view our [terms of service.](https://terms.ideal-postcodes.co.uk/)

### Designed for reliability at scale

Whether you are processing a handful of lookups a day or running high volume traffic across multiple brands, you need consistent performance and predictable behaviour. Ideal Postcodes supports high-throughput usage patterns and environments for testing and production.

### Dedicated migration support team

We have a dedicated team available to help you migrate quickly and safely. If you need support during the switch, [contact us.](https://ideal-postcodes.co.uk/support)

## Pricing

Ideal Postcodes uses a credit-based pay-as-you-go model.

- More flexible than a fixed monthly plan: you are not forced into a “use it or lose it” monthly allowance. You can purchase any number of credits.
- **Credits last 12 months:** useful if your usage is seasonal or inconsistent
- Automated top-ups: you can enable auto top-ups so your service never unexpectedly stops. When your credit balance drops below 10% of your chosen threshold, a top-up is triggered automatically so you do not have to keep monitoring it manually.

Full pricing is listed [here.](https://ideal-postcodes.co.uk/pricing)<https://ideal-postcodes.co.uk/pricing>

UK registered charities can apply for cost-effective charity pricing available [here.](https://ideal-postcodes.co.uk/sector/charities)

If you are an enterprise customer with high volumes, multiple brands, or procurement needs, [get in touch](https://ideal-postcodes.co.uk/support). We can support enterprise requirements and provide an appropriate plan.
